StoreFAQ Alternative for Shopify: Check What the Plan Actually Meters

👉 If you'd rather pay by the question than by the pageview: Install AC ‑ Questions & Answers on the Shopify App Store →
Most "best Shopify FAQ app" comparisons stop at the feature grid. That's the least useful part. Every app in this category renders an accordion, writes FAQ schema and bolts on an AI answer button. What actually decides your bill twelve months from now is the unit each app counts — and in this category the two common units behave in opposite directions.
We build AC ‑ Questions & Answers, so treat this as one vendor talking about a competitor and check the numbers yourself. All the pricing below was read off both public App Store listings on 25 August 2026; plans change, so re-read them before you commit.
Here's the honest part first. StoreFAQ is good. It's rated 4.9 across 147 reviews, it's Built for Shopify, and it does more than we do: a full FAQ page builder with drag-and-drop groups, an AI chatbot, instant answers and live chat in one install. If what you want is a proper help centre that also sits on product pages, it's a fair pick and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
The unit matters more than the price
StoreFAQ's paid plans meter FAQ page views. Professional is $7.99/month and includes 500 of them, then $0.0159 per extra view. Growth is $14.99/month for 2,000, then $0.0075 per extra. The free plan gives you 100 views and 25 AI conversations, lifetime.
A pageview is not a customer action. It's a side effect of traffic. If your FAQ block sits on the product template — which is exactly where you want it — then every product page that loads is a candidate view, and the counter moves whether the shopper reads it, scrolls past it, or bounces.
Run the arithmetic on a store doing 3,500 FAQ views in a month, which is not a big store:
| Included | Overage rate | Bill at 3,500 views | |
|---|---|---|---|
| StoreFAQ Professional | 500 | $0.0159 | $7.99 + 3,000 × $0.0159 = $55.69 |
| StoreFAQ Growth | 2,000 | $0.0075 | $14.99 + 1,500 × $0.0075 = $26.24 |
| AC ‑ Questions & Answers Advanced | n/a — questions, not views | none | $3.99 |
The first row is the trap, and it's an avoidable one: on the same traffic, StoreFAQ's own Growth plan costs less than half of Professional. If you're on their Professional tier and your traffic is growing, moving up a plan is the cheaper direction, which is a strange thing to have to work out for yourself. Check your last invoice for an overage line before you do anything else.
Our plans count questions submitted, not pages served. Free covers 25 Q&A a month. Basic is $1.99, Advanced is $3.99, Professional is $9.99 and that's the tier with AI-generated answers. Unlimited Q&A starts at Basic. A viral week costs us more in bandwidth and costs you nothing.
To be fair about it: questions-as-the-unit has its own failure mode. A store with 8,000 SKUs and confusing sizing can generate a lot of questions and every one of them lands in your admin queue as work. Views scale with your marketing; questions scale with how unclear your product pages are. Pick the one you'd rather have go up.
The second difference: who writes the question
An FAQ is your prediction. You sat down and wrote what you believed shoppers wanted to know, and for the questions you got right, it works. A product Q&A is what someone actually typed while looking at the product with a card in their hand.
StoreFAQ covers both shapes — the AI chatbot and instant answers give shoppers somewhere to ask. The distinction is where the answer ends up. In a chatbot, an answer is delivered once, to one person, and then it's gone. In a published Q&A thread, the answer sits on the product page permanently, gets indexed, and quietly answers the next four hundred people who wondered the same thing. That's why we push answers to the storefront by default rather than into a chat transcript.
Neither model is universally right. If your questions are mostly about orders and shipping, a chatbot is the better shape. If they're about the product itself, publish them.
Which one should you install
Install StoreFAQ if you need a standalone FAQ page, live chat and a chatbot from one app, and your traffic is low enough — or your plan generous enough — that view metering never becomes a line item.
Install ours if you mainly want questions on product pages, published and indexed, on a bill that doesn't move when a post takes off. Our free plan is 25 questions a month, which is enough to find out whether shoppers use it at all before you spend anything.
If you're already on StoreFAQ and happy, don't switch on our account. Just open your invoice and look for the overage row.
Frequently asked questions
Does StoreFAQ charge for FAQ page views? Yes. Its paid plans include a monthly allowance of FAQ page views — 500 on Professional, 2,000 on Growth — and bill per view beyond it, at $0.0159 and $0.0075 respectively as of 25 August 2026.
What does AC ‑ Questions & Answers meter instead? Questions submitted. The free plan covers 25 a month; every paid plan is unlimited. Page views are not counted.
Will I lose my existing FAQs if I move? Not if you export first. Both apps support import and export, and ours takes 200 imported questions on Basic and 2,000 on Advanced. Do the export before you uninstall anything — that's the step people skip.
Do published Q&A threads help SEO?
Question-and-answer content on the product page gives Google real text to index against long-tail phrasing that your product description doesn't use. Shopify's own guidance on the structured_data Liquid filter is worth a read before you rely on rich results.
Is AI worth paying for here? Only if the volume is real. AI answers sit on our $9.99 Professional plan; below a few dozen questions a month, answering them yourself is faster and reads better.
