EC ADA Accessibility Widget alternative for Shopify — what each plan includes

If you search "accessibility" on the Shopify App Store this month, EC ‑ ADA Accessibility Widget shows up near the top for almost every term we track: accessibility, WCAG, ADA compliance, EAA compliance. It's a good app with 96 reviews at 4.9 stars. Its listing also ends by promising stores that are "litigation-proof", and that's the one word in it we'd ask you to ignore. We build a competing app, so read this as an interested party's view.

EC comes from Entangle Commerce in Toronto, launched in December 2023, and it carries the Built for Shopify badge. It does more than a plain widget, and it's honest to say so up front. It's closer to a suite: widget, AI alt text, a cookie consent banner, scans, and at the top end a person who fixes your code.

What each EC plan includes

Here's the pricing as it reads on the listing today (November 3, 2026). Search "EC ADA Accessibility Widget" on the App Store to check it yourself. We don't link to a competitor's install page.

PlanPriceWhat changes
Free$02,000 store impressions a month, 50+ widget tools, cookie consent banner, AI alt text for 20 images
Growth$4.99 ($47.90/year)Unlimited impressions, AI alt text for 100 images a month, a landing-page scan and report
Standard$9 ($86.40/year)AI alt text for 500 images a month, automated audits, real-time alerts, downloadable reports, main store page scans
Premium$99 ($950.40/year)Code-level fixes, full-site scans, monthly monitoring, a human audit, a dedicated expert

Two things stand out. The free plan stops at 2,000 impressions, which a store showing about 70 pages a day uses up, so a store that's selling will be paying from month one. And the jump from $9 to $99 is where the real work lives: full-site scans and code fixes are only on Premium.

What EC does well

AI alt text. Missing alt text is one of the most common accessibility errors on Shopify stores, and writing it for 400 products by hand is the job nobody does. EC writes it for you, with a monthly image limit per plan. We don't have this.

The Premium plan is a real service. A human audit plus code-level fixes is what an overlay can't do on its own. If you'd rather pay someone than fix the theme yourself, that's a fair thing to pay for.

Languages and reviews. The admin is listed in 27 languages, and 96 reviews against our 20 is a real gap.

The word to ignore

"Litigation-proof" isn't something any app can make true. In August 2026, 432 ADA web accessibility lawsuits were filed in the US, and 134 of those defendants already had an accessibility widget on their site. Plaintiffs' testers check the code underneath the widget. A scan, AI alt text and a human audit all lower your risk if you act on them. None of them turns it to zero, and no one issues an ADA certificate for websites.

We're not picking on EC here. Most accessibility listings, ours included, use words like "compliance" in their titles. The difference that matters is what the app does about the code.

Where we're different

Our app is a widget plus an audit. The audit runs axe-core, the open-source engine many testing tools use, in a headless browser against any page you enter: a product page, the cart, a landing page you built last week. You get the list of violations, a score (passes divided by passes plus violations), your last 50 runs so you can see the trend, and a PDF you can hand to whoever edits your theme. It's on our Advanced plan at $9.99.

Here's our pricing, from the same day:

PlanPriceWhat you get
Free$0Core widget, default icon, no customization
Basic$4.99 ($49.99/year)Full widget customization, 5 icon styles, preset styles
Advanced$9.99 ($99.99/year)Everything above, 30+ widget languages, the audit and reports, analytics dashboard

No impression or visitor cap on any plan, including Free.

Where EC beats us, honestly

Alt text. They generate it; we don't. If your catalog is big and your alt text is empty, that alone may decide it.

A done-for-you tier. We don't fix your code. EC's Premium plan does, for $99 a month.

The cookie banner. EC bundles one into the free plan. Ours is accessibility only.

Reviews and admin languages. 96 to 20, and 27 admin languages to our English.

What we'd put on our side: a free widget with no traffic cap, an audit that runs on whichever page you choose at $9.99, a history of every run, and a short plan list where nothing important is held back for $99.

What we'd tell you to do first, with or without any app

Scan your homepage, one product page and your cart. Read the violation list, not the score. Most Shopify stores find the same short list: missing alt text, low-contrast buttons, form fields with no label, empty links and a skipped heading level. We looked at how common each one is on Shopify stores in the WebAIM data. Most of it you can fix in the theme editor in an afternoon.

Then decide what you're missing. If it's alt text for hundreds of products, or someone to do the fixing, EC's paid plans are worth a look. If it's knowing what's broken and a widget that doesn't charge by traffic, that's what we built.

Frequently asked questions

Does EC ‑ ADA Accessibility Widget scan my store? Yes, from the $4.99 Growth plan (a landing-page scan) and the $9 Standard plan (automated audits of main store pages). Full-site scans are on the $99 Premium plan.

Will any accessibility app make my store "litigation-proof"? No. An app can find problems and help you fix them. Your risk goes down when the theme itself is fixed and tested, and stays down when you re-test after changes. The lawsuit numbers above show that widgets alone don't stop suits.

Is the EC free plan enough? For a small store, maybe. It covers 2,000 impressions a month. Past that you need Growth at $4.99.

Can I run EC and another accessibility app together? You can run any audit tool next to any widget. Don't run two widgets at once, because two floating buttons on one page confuse shoppers.
