If you search "accessibility" on the Shopify App Store this month, EC ‑ ADA Accessibility Widget shows up near the top for almost every term we track: accessibility, WCAG, ADA compliance, EAA compliance. It's a good app with 96 reviews at 4.9 stars. Its listing also ends by promising stores that are "litigation-proof", and that's the one word in it we'd ask you to ignore. We build a competing app, so read this as an interested party's view.

Ez Accessibility Widget has three plans, and they list the exact same seven features. The only thing that changes as you pay more is how many visitors the widget will serve. That tells you what the product is: a well-made widget, priced by traffic. It doesn't tell you anything about whether your store has accessibility problems, because nothing in it looks. We build a competing app, so read this as an interested party's view.

In August 2026, 432 ADA web accessibility lawsuits were filed in the US, and 134 of those defendants had an accessibility widget running on their site when they were sued. That's roughly one in three. Keep that number in your head while you read any accessibility app listing, including ADA Accessibility Widget by AP and including ours. We build a competing app, so treat us as an interested party.

Avada Accessibility ADA EAA is, on the numbers, the strongest accessibility listing on the Shopify App Store right now: 5.0 stars across 293 reviews, Built for Shopify, and a free plan. We build a competing app, so treat us as an interested party. But there is one line in its pricing table that most merchants scroll straight past, and it decides whether the app works for your store or quietly stops working in week two.

AC – Accessibility Toolkit: Make Your Shopify Store More Accessible for Every Shopper

Every shopper deserves a seamless experience when browsing, reading, and buying online. But many websites still create unnecessary barriers for people with visual, cognitive or motor accessibility needs.

Small text, poor color contrast, difficult navigation, missing alt text, limited keyboard support, and complicated page layouts can make an online store frustrating—or impossible—to use.

That's where AC – Accessibility Toolkit comes in.

UserWay is probably the biggest name in accessibility widgets. It's also the only accessibility app we know of whose Shopify pricing page reads like a CDN bill: $49 a month for up to 100k page views, $149 for up to 1 million, $349 for up to 10 million. Have a good BFCM and your accessibility button gets more expensive.

If you've shopped for a Shopify accessibility app, you've met the pitch: paste one line of code, an AI scans your store, and 48 hours later you're WCAG compliant and lawsuit-proof. accessiBe and UserWay built big businesses on exactly that promise.

Every year, WebAIM scans the top 1,000,000 websites for accessibility errors. Their 2026 report just dropped — and the results for ecommerce are brutal.

Shopify stores average 75.1 accessibility errors per home page. That's 33.9% more errors than the web-wide average of 56.1 errors per page. Shopping sites in general scored 71.0 errors — 26.6% above average. Only sports sites performed worse in the entire study.

If you're running a Shopify store, your site is statistically one of the least accessible on the internet. That has real consequences: lost customers, legal exposure, and invisible revenue leaking out every day.

A law firm finds your store. A bot runs an automated scan, flags a handful of WCAG failures, and a demand letter lands in your inbox a week later. No warning, no customer complaint — just a settlement number. That's how most accessibility cases start now, and online stores are the favorite target.

We build accessibility tooling for a living, so we watch these numbers closely. They got worse in 2025, and 2026 is on track to beat them. The good news, and we'll show our work on this: getting to a defensible level of compliance is cheaper and faster than almost any merchant expects.

The European Accessibility Act Is Now Enforced. ADA Lawsuits Are at Record Highs. Is Your Shopify Store Ready?

If you sell to customers in Europe or the United States, April 2026 is not the month to ignore web accessibility.

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) became fully enforceable in June 2025. Every ecommerce website serving EU customers must now comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards — or face fines up to €3 million and removal from the EU market.

Meanwhile in the US, ADA digital accessibility lawsuits continue to surge. Retail accounts for 77.5% of all ADA web lawsuits, and companies that ignore their first lawsuit have a 1-in-5 chance of being sued again within 12 months.

This is not a future problem. This is happening right now.
